The official Scrabble dictionary hasn’t been updated since 2005, but the game’s maker, Hasbro, is inviting fans to nominate a new word via the game’s Facebook page. Finalists will be announced on April 2, and the final winner will be revealed on April 10.

Hasbro has suggested words like “selfie” or “hashtag,” but for my money there’s really only one contender. Sharted.

I have only played Scrabble once in my adult life, but on that fateful day, it was as if God himself stuck his hand into my velvety sack and gently fingered and selected my tiles.

I actually started the game with the letters you see up there, but when I dropped both them and some science on the board, my mother-in-law challenged me and sure enough, this valid word was not in the Scrabble dictionary.

Luckily, I was still able to spell the word “hardest” with my letters, and the fact that I also made the word “throb” off the “t” still made it funny, but there’s a part of me that has always felt a bit empty since that day.

I demand the right to legally use the word Sharted in a game, Hasbro, and I hope you good people will help make this dream a reality.
