Sorry Hustler, but Golf Digest is the last magazine I still read, and the publication is catching flak from women in the Ladies Professional Golf Association for putting hot blonde Paulina Gretzky on the cover.
Ms. Gretzky isn’t a golfer, but she’s engaged to PGA-pro Dustin Johnson, and that’s good enough for me. But predictably, women see it differently.
Seven-time major champion Juli Inkster commented, “I’m guaranteeing you right now, it was not a woman editor who chose that cover,” and I’m sure she’s completely right. This isn’t Vogue or Cosmo, its goddamned Golf Digest.
And I love how the LPGA has conveniently forgotten how they tried to sex things up in the 80s and did that awful swimsuit calendar. It’s been almost 25 years since it was published, but that picture of golfing legend Nancy Lopez at the beach is just as terrifying today as it was then.
Thankfully, Golf Digest learned from those mistakes and had the sense to go after some outside talent.
