President Obama plans to meet today at the White House with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and it’s expected he’ll lean on him to delay any potential attack on Iran. Obama said it’s unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, but he’s made it clear he wants more time for sanctions to work.

Israel currently has anywhere from 75 to 400 nuclear weapons, but most experts put the number around 200. The country has intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of hitting Washington DC and even nuclear missile equipped submarines that can strike anywhere in the world. The US Congress Office of Technology Assessment also felt it was likely the country has a chemical weapons program and offensive biological weapons program.

That’s not bad for a country that according to the IMF has a GDP that puts it in between those other two superpowers of Egypt and Ireland.

I understand Israel’s paranoia, but I don’t want to get roped into yet another Mideast war for reasons that have nothing to do with any strategic threat to the US. Israel has an army and air force capable of stomping the shit out of any country in the region, and if they’re going to start a fight with Iran, they need to do it without their Uncle Sam.
